‘Nightly Show’ To Sean Penn: ‘You Are Not Hunter S. Thompson’ (VIDEO)

“The Nightly Show” was clear on Monday night’s episode: Sean Penn should stick to acting.

Host Larry Wilmore reacted to Penn’s defense of his interview with the notorious drug kingpin known as El Chapo to Charlie Rose of “60 Minutes.” Penn told Rose that he wanted to see the “license that says that (his critics are) journalists.”

Wilmore took it upon himself to speak for Rose.

“Are you seriously asking Charlie Rose about a license in journalism? If there’s anyone who needs their license checked it’s the guy who wrote, ‘And lumber over to the tree line to take a piss. Dick in hand, I do consider,’ — I can’t even finish the line,” Wilmore said.

“Look, Sean, you can’t just interview fugivites from justice. Listen to me, you’re not Hunter S. Thompson. You’re not Ernest Hemingway. You are Sam,” Wilmore continued.

  1. “You are Sam.”

    Oh how that haunts him…

    Never go full retard.

  2. That interview was an embarrassment. I once wrote a bunch of pseudo intellectual nonsense in a college paper and the professor called me out for it by writing “an intellectual cesspool lurks here.” That was what I thought about the nonsense that was coming out of Penn’s mouth.

  3. Yeppers. I like Penn’s politics, acting, and directing–but it seems like he might be a kind of self-important pompous ass.
