Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) effectively started his Senate campaign in March by backtracking on his past support for “personhood” — the anti-abortion position that defines life’s beginning as the moment of conception. But liberal groups aren’t letting the issue go.
MoveOn.org and NARAL Pro-Choice America released Monday a new TV ad slamming Gardner for his support for “personhood” initiatives. It plays on a recent Gardner TV ad that touted his support for making birth control pills available over the counter.
The ad is airing in the Denver market on cable networks whose audiences skew heavily female: Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, Oxygen and OWN, among others. The groups said it would be a five-figure ad buy, though they would not be more specific when asked by TPM.
Gardner is currently trailing Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) by 2 percentage points, according to TPM’s PollTracker average.
Nor should they
Terrible headline! It’s not “past” personhood support. He repudiated the state initiative, but to this day he remains a co-sponsor of the Federal personhood bill. When asked by a local NBC reporter last week, he said the Federal bill is “different” but wouldn’t say how.
He (and his Republican colleagues Coffman and Beaupreauz) refuse to say whether over-the-counter should be covered by insurance. Gardner claims OTC will be “cheaper,” but there’s no evidence for that. There’s plenty of competition among prescription versions of the pill. And women would have to pay themselves.
Please don’t brand Gardner opponents as “liberals” – we’re progressives, we’re moderates, we’re liberal, we’re women who think women should have reasonable access to contraception.
Where are all these Liberals? I’d like to meet them and construct a Liberal movement. We sure don’t have one now.
Excellent point! Accuracy matters.
More than just liberals despise this guy and his Party’s efforts to control people and especially women.
Remember, besides being a personhood freak, Gardner is 100% Republican teabagger and all that comes with it.
