After blowing an early lead, Democrat Martha Coakley lost the race for governor of Massachusetts to Republican Charlie Baker on Tuesday night, a huge defeat for the Democratic party in the deep-blue state.

The defeat came on a brutal election night for Democrats, and nearly five years after she collapsed against underdog Republican Scott Brown in the 2010 special election to succeed the late Ted Kennedy in the U.S. Senate.

Fox News and ABC News called the race for Baker.
