Sen. Mark Kirk (R-OH) apologized on Monday for comments he made while joking about Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) status as a single presidential candidate.

“I’ve been joking with Lindsey. Did you see that? He’s going to have a rotating first lady. He’s a bro with no ho,” Kirk said at a Senate Appropriations Committee markup last week, referencing Graham’s recent quip that he would have a “rotating first lady” if elected president.

“I apologize to the people of Illinois for my inappropriate remarks last week,” Kirk said in an email statement on Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

After making the comments last week, Kirk told Politico that he regretted making the joke about Graham.

Graham acknowledged that Kirk’s comment was simply a joke and indicated he was not offended.

“I think he did the right thing by apologizing. He was trying to be funny, not mean, it didn’t work,” Graham told Yahoo News’ Katie Couric last week.
