One GOP senator who’s gone against the grain and said he was open to meeting with Obama’s Supreme Court nominee now is scheduled to meet with Merrick Garland on Tuesday.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) would be the first Republican senator to meet with Garland, who Obama nominated on March 16. Kirk’s office confirmed the meeting to The Chicago Tribune.
The meeting follows Kirk’s argument last week that his fellow Republican senators should “man up” and have a vote on Garland’s nomination.
Kirk faces a tough re-election battle against Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) in 2016.
