One GOP senator who’s gone against the grain and said he was open to meeting with Obama’s Supreme Court nominee now is scheduled to meet with Merrick Garland on Tuesday.
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) would be the first Republican senator to meet with Garland, who Obama nominated on March 16. Kirk’s office confirmed the meeting to The Chicago Tribune.
The meeting follows Kirk’s argument last week that his fellow Republican senators should “man up” and have a vote on Garland’s nomination.
Kirk faces a tough re-election battle against Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) in 2016.
Wake me when something substianve happens
This Profile in NothingBurgerness is expected to include these highlights:
•Sen. Kirk will ask Judge Garland to sit down, on principle.
•Judge Garland will ask if a chair is available.
•Rim shots will be ordered.
This matters no matter what we think of the GOTP fool meeting with Garland, or saying he should get a vote, or that the process needs to be respected, etc.
They are doing or saying these things out loud. Every poke into the GOTP SCOTUS obstruction bubble may get a few more regular folks seeing the republicans for the unpatriotic idiots that they are.
Folklorists argue that Kirk’s independence from Mitch McConnell will turn into a pumpkin at precisely 8 pm Central time on Nov. 8, 2016.
I’m more partial to the scientific explanation: His independence actually is a six-year cicada. It returns to hibernation right after Nov. 8, but will re-emerge in the winter-spring of 2022 – loudly proclaiming itself after not making even a peep for five-and-a-half years.
it’s 5:00 EDT so it must be time to have a cool one… found a nice bottle of High West Double Rye when I was shopping for Easter dinner this morning…
at 3:15 this morning it was too early… after reading all day that new Republican platform appears to hinge on who has the ugliest wife I think it’s time now…
Happy Easter everyone… may the Easter Bunny bring you lots of chocolate…
