Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) suggested Thursday that polls showing Americans want a Supreme Court nominee to receive a Senate hearing shouldn’t be trusted because pollsters also predicted Hillary Clinton would win the Michigan primary.
During a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) cited several polls showing most Americans think a potential Supreme Court nominee should get a Senate hearing, if not a floor vote.
Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) took umbrage at that, saying, “I happen to believe that we are supposed to make decisions based on what’s right, not based on polls.”
That’s when Graham jumped in.
“I can tell you one person who doesn’t believe in polls and that’s Hillary Clinton,” Graham said, chuckling.
“She was 21 points ahead of Bernie in Michigan and lost,” he added, snorting and laughing. “According to the Real Clear Politics average, so.”
Another person could be heard laughing at Graham’s comments as well.
“The moral high ground is a shaky place to be in the Senate when it comes to judges, so I won’t go there,” Graham said.
