Larry Wilmore, host of Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show,” is expected to emcee the White House Correspondents’ Dinner next year, the association announced in a news release Wednesday.
“Larry’s edgy, even provocative, brand of humor means he’s certainly up to
the task of skewering politicians of all ideological stripes, and we don’t
expect the nation’s news media to escape unscathed, either,” Carol Lee,
president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said in the release.
The dinner is scheduled for April 30, 2016.
Wilmore responded to the announcement on Twitter:
I’m beyond excited for this!

Great choice.
Agree whole-heartedly.
I can’t wait!! That will definitely be something to see Talk about giving some fucks.!!!
I will miss these dinners. Even if the guest quality stays up and Clinton wins the White House, President Obama is really good at comic delivery, and it’s always shown. It’s one of those small things I loved even in times where I was more critical of the administration.
Larry Wilmore is an excellent choice. Larry’s got the ability to deliver sharp-elbowed satire good-naturedly. His style is different than Colbert’s, but both can accomplish it. Wilmore also brings a pointed, sardonic black perspective to topical humor, more sad and concerned than angry.
