Following the dueling jabs between Republican presidential candidates about who was really to blame for 9/11, Larry Wilmore said on Monday’s episode of “The Nightly Show” that it’s time we start examining our presidential system of blame.

“What he did afterward is the only thing that matters. Afghanistan, Iraq, PATRIOT Act, Gitmo, waterboarding,” Wilmore said. “Bush basically created the first five seasons of ’24’!”

But, it’s easy to say how you would have prevented 9/11 more than a decade later, Wilmore said.

“If you’re in that seat you’re going to get blamed for shit that wasn’t your fault and credited for shit that you didn’t do. So if Republicans are going to spend a majority of their time blaming Obama for something like Benghazi then you have accept the fact that George W. Bush is to blame for 9/11,” Wilmore said. “It doesn’t matter what it is, if you’re sitting in that seat, you get blamed.”

  1. Not Republicans. Democrats get all the blame, Republicans get all the glory.

  2. Wilmore is delivering what we counted on Stewart for. His critique is funny, sharp and relevant – and you know he’s not just reading a script. I find I am watching this show much more consistently than Colbert and The Daily Show now. Last night’s opening segment and panel were great.

  3. Mr. Bush is exempt from blame due to the fact Iraq was Bill Clinton’s fault.

  4. He was dead on. Let’s see if he gets the recognition he really deserves.

  5. Ah, but those dickweed Republicans don’t think that way, now do they?
