After “Good Morning America” co-anchor Lara Spencer posted a photo of herself sidled up to Republican presidential Donald Trump Tuesday afternoon, a very important question was raised: Was she sitting on the real estate mogul’s lap?
Trump appeared on ABC’s tentpole morning news show on Tuesday. During the interview with George Stephanopoulos, Trump said retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson didn’t have the “temperament” to be President.
Hours later, Spencer posted a photo that showed her embracing the Republican as he smiled on fondly.
The photo was captioned: “Can’t beat having the REAL DonaldJTrump on #goodmorningamerica. :)”
Can’t beat having the REAL DonaldJTrump on #goodmorningamerica. 🙂
The crop of the photo makes it difficult to see exactly what was happening out of frame, including where Spencer was positioned. But Twitter erupted with speculation that Spencer was sitting on The Donald’s lap.

.@LaraSpencer you sitting on Trump’s lap is extremely unprofessional. Thanks for making female journalists look bad. https://t.co/1Co6XqMJnm

So is Lara Spencer straddling @realDonaldTrump in that lap picture? She knows this will go downhill quickly, right?

Will NEVER watch @GMA again. Shame on Lara Spencer sitting on Donald Trump, a disgusting, hate-monger’s lap. @ABC https://t.co/7C7dqIxerr

Spencer later reposted the photo with a new caption: “Let’s clear this up – I’m standing next to Donald Trump. Said a quick hello and welcomed him to the GMA studio for first time since he announced his candidacy.”
CNN’s Dylan Byers tweeted that ABC also maintained Spencer was standing next to Trump and just had her arms around the candidate in the photo.
TPM reached out to the network for comment, which was not immediately returned Tuesday.
