At least two are dead in an apparent murder-suicide Friday morning at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, the sheriff’s office said.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Twitter that two were dead and deputies were inside the building. Sheriff’s office spokesman James Keith told NBC News “it appears to be a murder-suicide,” with the gunman accounted for among the two reported dead.

While the names of the victims have not been released, the Air Force Times, citing internal Pentagon documents, reported an airman shot the commanding officer of the 331st K-9 Training Squadron. AP later reported that an anonymous senior U.S. official confirmed the airman shot his commanding officer.

The base remained on lockdown as of 10 a.m. local time. Local law enforcement and FBI officials were on the scene.

A graduation event for basic military training was scheduled for today at Lackland, according to the Air Force Times.

This is a developing story. We will continue to update as new details are available.
