Kentucky clerk Kim Davis will spend the night in jail after refusing to grant her deputy clerks authority to grant marriage licenses to gay couples, WKOW reported Thursday.
While the Rowan County clerk’s office is set to begin issuing marriage licenses at 8 a.m. on Friday, the licenses are on shaky legal ground without her signature, the station reported.
Every deputy county clerks but one – Davis’ son – said they would issue licenses to same-sex couples in her absence.
