A jarring moment interrupted the jury selection in the trial of Aurora, Colorado theater shooter James Holmes on Tuesday when a woman who had said her grandchild had not been vaccinated for measles broke down in public.

The prospective juror came to court with a child in tow, saying she could not leave the child at day care because the child had not been vaccinated for the measles, television station KCNC reported.

She asked to be excused from jury duty, but was told to come back another day.

Then she reportedly began crying and pulling chunks of her hair out. She was immediately dismissed, according to the station.

The judge reportedly told the court, “she lost it.”

KCNC noted that the court had previously released two candidates for being drunk, one for being high and one for being violently ill.

James Holmes is charged with killing a dozen people and injuring more than 70 at in July 2012.

  1. REALLY reconsidering anymore visits to Colorado.

  2. She’s certainly someone I’d want helping care for my daughter. Of course, the child hasn’t had at least some of her vaccines, so it sounds like the whole family will not be up for any caregiver awards this year.

  3. So Holmes is entitled to a “jury of his peers.” She seems perfect.

  4. Man, some people REALLY don’t want to be sucked into being a juror it appears.

  5. Is the potential jury pool in Aurora really this pathetic?

This only goes to show that they definitely need a whole lot more available mental health services for all people in Aurora, not just the mentally ill man that pulled that trigger.
