White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Friday that he thinks Rudy Giuliani’s reputation has taken a hit since he said he didn’t think President Barack Obama “loves America.” He added that he felt “sorry” for the former New York City mayor.

“It’s sad to see when somebody who has attained a certain level of public stature — and even admiration — tarnishes that legacy so thoroughly,” Earnest said in a press briefing. “The truth is, I don’t take any joy or vindication or satisfaction from that.”

“I think really the only thing that I feel, is I feel sorry for Rudy Giuliani today,” he added.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz had pointed out Thursday that Giuliani made the same attack against the President during his “fleeting 2007 run for the presidency.”
