Hershey, Pa. — Newly elected Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) will deliver the official Republican response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address next Tuesday.

The announcement was made by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) at the GOP congressional retreat in this Pennsylvania town, who was accompanied by Ernst at his press availability with House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).

“I am truly humbled and honored to have this opportunity to deliver the Republican address. And it is a long way from Red Oak to Washington D.C.,” she said. “I never, never imagined that I would have this opportunity.”
