Longtime CNN correspondent Jim Clancy left the network a week after getting into heated exchanges on Twitter about the Paris terror attacks, TV Newser reported Friday.

The news website obtained Clancy’s goodbye note to his colleagues, which did not detail why he left. A CNN spokesperson confirmed the 34-year veteran’s departure.

“Jim Clancy is no longer with CNN,” the spokesperson told TV Newser. “We thank him for more than three decades of distinguished service, and wish him nothing but the best.”

Last week, Clancy mixed it up with some of his Twitter followers after weighing in on satirical French newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s caricatures of Muhammad.

“The cartoons NEVER mocked the Prophet. They mocked how the COWARDS tried to distort his word. Pay attention,” he tweeted on Jan. 7, according to Mediaite.

“Get a grip, junior. It’s my Friday night,” he wrote in another tweet, according to Mediaite. “You and the Hasbara team need to pick on some cripple on the edge of the herd.”

Mediaite noted that Clancy’s Twitter account had been deleted as of Thursday.
