Jeb Bush said Wednesday that Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump was actually “scared” of his candidacy.

“The reason why he attacks me is he’s scared of me,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “He’s insecure. He doesn’t believe that he can take me on, and while I’m doing worse than him in the polls, the simple fact is, why would he spend his time tearing down someone who’s so low compared to him?”

Bush said Trump’s history of “tearing down” Hispanics, the disabled, prisoners-of-war and women won’t win him the presidency. He added that he thought Trump was attacking him because he was “the real challenge” to Trump securing the nomination.

“This is because we’re moving up, and I believe that he believes that we’re the real challenge for his winning the nomination,” Bush continued.
