Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) on Tuesday professed his affection for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), whose enormous popularity in his home state has not been matched recently by Republicans and conservatives nationwide.
“I love the guy,” Bush said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
But when the 2016 contender was asked if conservatives were failing to “take advantage” of Christie’s appeal by opting not to invite the outspoken governor to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Bush took a pass on criticizing organizers of the event.
“They took advantage of it last year,” Bush said, referring to Christie’s appearance at CPAC in 2012. “And I’m sure they’ll take advantage of it this year. They’ve got low-lifes like me this year.”
Bush continued, “I love Chris Christie. I think he’s been an incredible leader and a role model for a lot of people about how to lead and how to govern.”
