Ilyse Hogue, formerly of Media Matters and MoveOn.org, will serve as the next president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, the group announced Monday.
Hogue co-founded Friends of Democracy, a super PAC dedicated to campaign finance reform. Before that, she worked as an adviser to the media watchdog group Media Matters and as a former director of political advocacy and communications for the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org.
The current president, Nancy Keenan, announced last year that she would step down in 2013 and expressed her wish that a younger predecessor would help the pro-choice movement connect with young Americans.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be given the honor of leading this great organization,” Hogue said in a press release. “This is a critical moment to engage a new generation of young people in the conversation about what choice means in a modern age. We have a unique opportunity to ignite the pro-choice values most Americans share, solidify our longstanding pro-choice base, and expand its reach moving forward.”
