Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton characterized her relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin Sunday during the Democratic presidential debate as “interesting.”

Clinton was asked during the debate how she would describe her relationship with Putin. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Putin have exchanged compliments.

She paused slightly before launching into her answer.

“It’s, um, it’s interesting,” Clinton said, to laughter. “It’s one I think of respect. We’ve had some very tough dealings with one another, and I know that he’s someone that you have to continually stand up to, because like many bullies, he is someone who will take as much as he possibly can unless you do.”

  1. Oh, if only Clinton had spent time in the green room with Pootie, she would be his close buddy and the Soviet-U.S. relationship would be the bestest!

  2. Clearly, she should have spent more time gazing into his eyes, like Bush.

  3. W looked into Putin’s eyes and saw his soul and his straight forwrdness and trustworthiness. Biden looked into his eyes and told him he had no soul.

  4. It’s terrible. He’s a disgusting man.
Oh wait. That’s for the Mexican’s and the Chinese. The Russian ruler likes me, so he’s a wonderful man.

  5. I’m concerned by Hillary Clinton’s statement about Vladimir Putin and Russia (below) as one more indication of her hawkish views. Actually, the U.S. fomented the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian government; Crimean citizens voted to be returned to Russia; there is no proof that Russian forces downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17; and it appears that we/NATO and not Russia are taking the “aggressive stance” in Europe.

Here is what else Mrs. Clinton said:

"…And I know that Putin’s someone that you have to continuingly stand up to because like many bullies, he is somebody who will take as much as he possibly can unless you do.

“And we need to get the Europeans to be more willing to stand up, I was pleased they put sanctions on after Crimea and eastern Ukraine and the downing of the airliner, but we’ve got to be more united in preventing Putin from taking a more aggressive stance in Europe and the Middle East.”
