Is Hillary Clinton A Neocon? Joe Scarborough Thinks So

Hillary Clinton may well coast to the Democratic nomination in 2016, but at this rate, it looks like she’ll enter the contest wearing a label that probably won’t endear her to her party’s most liberal voters.

On Friday, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough once again put the former secretary of state in league with the likes of the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol.

“Hillary’s a neocon,” Scarborough said. “She and Bill Kristol could write a book together. There has not been a war since the 1990s that Hillary Clinton hasn’t supported.”

This was hardly the first time in recent months Clinton has been branded a “neocon.” It wasn’t even the first time this year that Scarborough described her as such.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald of The Intercept has said he views Clinton in much the same light.

“She’s a fucking hawk and like a neocon, practically,” the Pulitzer Prize winner told GQ earlier this year.

It’s safe to say Kristol, who wrote in April that Clinton would be a “dutiful chaperone of further American decline” if she were to win in 2016, doesn’t agree with the comparison. But he has had some fun with it.

Last month, Kristol ran a “special guest editorial” under Clinton’s byline in the Weekly Standard. The article was excerpted from Clinton’s interview with The Atlantic magazine in which she critiqued President Obama’s earlier refusals to intervene in Syria.

Kristol joked in an editor’s note accompanying the article: “I think it was the great Maimonides who taught us, ‘You must accept the truth from whatever source it comes.'”
