Champ, 48, spent over ten years in state prison and was convicted of intent to commit rape, assault, and voluntary manslaughter, according to The Los Angeles Times.
"In my life, I've been held accountable because of my stupidity. I do not want anyone else to be enslaved because of their lack of knowledge," Champ said recently according to the Times.
Champ's rap sheet also includes loitering to solicit a prostitute, according to The Daily Beast.
In a recent interview Champ said that he found religion after he was arrested.
"I found the Lord when I got arrested for picking up the prostitutes," Champ said in an interview with Fresno, California's KMJ radio, according to The Daily Beast.
Champ also pleaded no contest in a voluntary manslaughter case after running into a man with his car. He called that event a "tragic accident."
