Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani skipped right on past casual sexism when he said Sunday that Donald Trump would be a better president than “a woman.”

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, he called Trump a “genius” following a New York Times report that Trump may not have paid federal taxes for up to 18 years.

“Absolute genius,” Giuliani doubled down. “The man, in ‘The Art of the Deal’ this is described, first of all we are talking about 26 years ago, perfectly legal. We should get that straight immediately. It’s a perfectly legal application of the tax code and he would have been a fool not to take advantage of it.”

In touting Trump’s business smarts, Giuliani asked Stephanopoulos if he would rather an “economic genius” or a woman as president.

“Don’t you think a man who has this kind of economic genius is a lot better for the United States than a woman, and the only thing she’s ever produced is a lot of work for the FBI checking out her emails,” he said, without referring to Hillary Clinton by name.

Stephanopoulos did not follow up on Giuliani’s comment about Clinton, but pressed him further on Trump’s taxes.
