Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) on Tuesday joined the chorus of state Republicans who believe Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) should resign after pleading guilty to cocaine possession.
Asked about Republican Party of Florida Chair Lenny Curry’s statement calling for the first-term congressman to step down, Scott said he agreed.
“I agree with the party chairman,” Scott told reporters, as quoted by the Fort Myers News-Press. “Trey is going through a tough time. My prayers and my wife’s prayers are with his family. But we have to hold all of our elected officials to the highest standards.”
Radel was approached by reporters early Tuesday outside the Naples, Fla. facility where he is undergoing treatment and complained that people had been harassing him.
“It really is upsetting,” he told the reporters. “As I sit here and work on focusing on my family and health with people coming and harassing me.”
