During an appearance Thursday evening on MSNBC, Chris Matthews repeatedly asked Carly Fiorina point blank whether she believed that Bill and Hillary Clinton have a “real marriage.”
Over and over again — five times — Fiorina would not say that the Clinton marriage is real.
The exchange came after Fiorina opened the undercard debate earlier Thursday night by saying she was not a political insider hungry to be on the trail and “unlike another woman in this race, I actually love spending time with my husband.”
Here is the full exchange:
“They have been married for a long time,” she said smiling.
Matthews wasn’t taking that for an answer so he asked again “so, it’s a real marriage?”
“They’ve been married for a very long time,” she repeated.
“It’s a real marriage then. You’ll say that,” Matthews dug in as the moment grew more awkward.
“They’ve been married for a long time,” Fiorina said again tilting her head to the side.
“Why are you hiding from an answer,” Matthews asked after a few moments’ pause.
“I’m not. I am answering your question. They’ve been married for a long time,” Fiorina said. “Chris there are so many other things we could talk about.”
