A former political strategist to Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) tweeted an article Thursday that celebrated the results of the Colorado recall and declared state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) “too stupid” to be governor.

Dave Carney, who’s currently serving as an adviser to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R), shared a blog post by a man named Robbie Cooper titled, “Total Recall in CO (and why Wendy Davis is too Stupid to be Governor).” Carney is also a longtime Perry confidant who worked on the governor’s 2012 presidential campaign.

The flap comes less than a month after Abbott found himself in hot water for thanking a Twitter user who called Davis “retard barbie.”

Davis, who rose to national prominence after her marathon filibuster of abortion legislation earlier this year, is considering a 2014 gubernatorial bid. She postponed an announcement on her future plans originally planned for the first week of September in order to care for her ailing father, Jerry Russell, who passed away last week.

Texas Democrats on Thursday denounced Carney and Abbott.

“It’s clear that Abbott’s advisers are following a strategy of offending every woman voter in the state of Texas,” Will Hailer, executive director of the state Democratic Party, told the Dallas Morning News. “A woman who worked her way from a trailer park to graduate from Harvard Law School with honors is anything but stupid.”
