Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the CDC’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, on Sunday said that the health care worker who contracted Ebola after caring for the Dallas patient with the virus must have violated protocol.

“Well, certainly there have to have been an inadvertent, innocent breach of the protocol of taking care of a patient within the personal protective equipment. That extremely rarely happens,” Fauci said on ABC’s “This Week.”

The worker was in full protective gear while caring for the Ebola patient, and the CDC is investigating what went wrong, according to Fauci.
