Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) on Sunday said he didn’t think Democrats were wrong to pass Obamacare in 2010, even though Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) suggested this week that the timing was off on the bill’s passage.
Schumer said Tuesday that Democrats “put all of our focus on the wrong problem — health care reform.” He said Americans just wanted “better wages and more jobs.”
Patrick said he disagreed with the senator and that the health care law still helped many Americans.
“I think Americans understand the interconnectedness of a whole host of solutions that government should pay attention to. Not that they think government should solve every problem in their lives. But that government should help them help themselves,” he said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And you ask somebody who is not insured and is sick, or someone who is getting buried by healthcare-related debt, whether healthcare reform makes a difference. And they will tell you that it does make a difference.”
After Schumer’s remarks on Tuesday, a couple former Obama aides quickly criticized him.
