David Letterman, the longtime late night host whose career has spanned two major broadcasting networks, is reportedly retiring.

The news comes via CNN’s Brian Stelter:

Letterman began his career at NBC, but had an ignominious breakup with the network after hosting duties of the “Tonight Show” were awarded to his rival Jay Leno.

His current program, the “Late Show with David Letterman,” has aired on CBS since 1993.
