“The Daily Show” welcomed its new advertising overlords on Wednesday night.
With a forced smile, host Jon Stewart pulled up a slick new ad from Koch Industries that appeared during a commercial break this week. The TV spot featured images of sunny landscapes and beaming factory workers while praising the multinational corporation.
“Wow, that’s the kind of ad that a company usually makes when it turns out a by-product of their manufacturing process is giving young, pubescent males talking nipples,” Stewart said.
But after running through a few details about the Koch brothers and their strategies to influence elections through various dark money organizations, the show’s crew decided to tweak the TV spot.
“We’re Koch Industries: The next generation of robber barons, bending the democratic process to our will since 1980,” the new “Daily Show”-approved ad’s narrator said in a soothing voice.
“With our heartfelt devotion to fossil fuels, we make your planet warmer and your water more flammable,” the narrator said, “while lubricating your birds, and rearranging your polar bears.”

That.
Was beautiful.
The Daily Show and Jon Stewart, bringing the truth, and making it funny. Awesome.
You’d almost think they don’t want them as a sponsor.
Daily Show can likely afford to pick their sponsors.
This was a stick-in-the-eye from Koch Industries.
Dropping big $$ to basically say:
Nyah-nyah!
This was DS’s way of saying it right back.

Amway did exactly the same thing here in Michigan 8 years ago when Dick DeVos was running for governor. Didn’t turn out so well. And as soon as the election was over the ads stopped airing.
