A mysterious flyer has been circulating around part of North Carolina that includes lynching imagery and warns that if Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) doesn’t win re-election, President Barack Obama’s impeachment is imminent.

The flyer urges people to vote and reads, “Kay Hagan DOESN’T win! Obama’s IMPEACHMENT will begin! Vote in 2014.” Hagan is running slightly ahead of House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) in the North Carolina race for U.S. Senate.

The flyer said it’s paid for by the Concerned Citizens of Cumberland County but no contact information was listed on the flyer, according to the Fayetteville Observer. The flyer said it is not endorsed by either candidates.

The flyers were distributed to the First Baptist Church on Moore Street, according to the Observer.

Both local Republicans and Democrats said they had nothing to do with the flyers and didn’t know where they came from or were familiar with Concerned Citizens of Cumberland County.

“I think it’s unfortunate to use this kind of emotion as a means to getting people out to vote. It’s bad information,” Cumberland County Republican Party Chairwoman Linda Devore said.

Similarly Hagan spokesman Chris Hayden said they didn’t know where the flyer came from.

“I don’t know anything about the group or flier. We don’t coordinate with outside groups,” he said.

Fayetteville Observer Paul Woolverton tweeted a photo of the flyer:

  1. What an absolutely slimy move by the GOP. They’re 100% behind this. Assholes.

  2. “Concerned” in this context almost always means racist.

See Sam Alito’s membership in the “Concerned Alumni of Princeton” as an example. They were concerned about non-whites being admitted to the university.

How, exactly, is this Pro Hagen? I see it the other way…calling out the opportunity to impeach.

Besides, if it really was intended to be pro Hagen would it have it’s distribution started in a Southern Baptist church?

  4. The “CCC” sounds an awful lot like the “KKK.”

It’s probably their grade school affiliate.
