UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.

Fox News said Tuesday that Donald Trump’s campaign canceled an interview the network booked with embattled campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

The interview was canceled shortly after it was announced.

“Corey Lewandowski was booked exclusively for tonight’s show and the campaign subsequently canceled his appearance,” Amy Sohnen, executive producer of “The O’Reilly Factor,” said in a statement provided to TPM.

Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Trump’s campaign said in an email that Lewandowski “was unable to join due to a scheduling conflict.”

The interview was teased on air in the 3 p.m. hour, and Fox’s Greta Van Susteren also tweeted the announcement:

Minutes later, though, Van Susteren tweeted that the interview had been postponed:

Police in Jupiter, Florida, charged Lewandowski with misdemeanor battery on Tuesday, after a former Breitbart reporter filed a report alleging that he grabbed her arm earlier this month at a campaign event. Trump has insisted that Lewandowski is innocent, and a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign said that Lewandowski won’t be fired even if he is convicted of the charge.

    Awkward!

  2. Maybe relevant, maybe not, but according to the Daily Beast’s Olivia Nuzzi, a “campaign insider” says L.'s been lying about this to Trump, hiding the images and so forth from him. Imagine that! Hope Hicks too, she’s under his sway somehow. So maybe Trump is trying to remember that phrase you use when you tell someone they’re no longer in your employ. On the other hand Trump’s been attacking the reporter with his trademark thuggish buffoonery. They’re just buggering this up in every way and direction possible when a god-damn simple apology in the beginning would have ended it. Not how these freaks roll, obviously.

ETA: Here’s an analysis from Jim Newell, an extremely smart observer of and a refreshingly good writer about the political scene. Short version, Trump won’t fire Lewandowski, because Trump’s big and strong and never wrong, and that kind of thing will hurt him cumulatively with the decent people.

  3. Now there’s a cat fight going on on CNN about a woman sleazily associated by Trump with Cruz(viz a viz, the National Enquirer story). Tapper has interviewed the “wronged woman” and is now talking with a Trump spokeswoman. THIS is where the GOP has sunk to. What a sorry bag of sleaze the GOP has become.

My alternative is to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy …again just to feel like I’ve done something worthwhile today.

  4. That sounds like a euphemism for Drumpf supporters.
