Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager-turned-CNN pundit, has been notably absent from the airwaves this week.
While he appeared on the network regularly during last week’s Republican National Convention, where he also was serving as a New Hampshire delegate for Trump, Lewandowski has not been featured on air since July 22.
Buzzfeed reporter Kyle Blaine first noted Lewandowski’s extended absence from CNN and said that the network did not respond to multiple interview requests.
CNN press representatives did not respond to TPM’s request for comment on Thursday, either.
The RNC coverage highlighted Lewandowski’s enduringly close ties to the Trump campaign. While the CNN commentator often defends Trump’s positions in panels on “New Day” and other marquee programs, their warm relationship came into focus in the wee hours of the morning Friday when Lewandowski took a phone call from the real estate mogul on set.
Lewandowski said Trump called shortly after being formally named the GOP nominee just to “say thank you” for the “hard work” he’d put in for the campaign.
Trump then offered up a full-throated defense of his ex-staffer during a Friday press conference, calling Lewandowski “very loyal.”
“He’s been on CNN, and he’s really been fighting for me and I respect that a lot,” Trump told reporters in Cleveland.
Correction: Due to a typo, this post originally said the last day that Lewandowski appeared on CNN was July 26. The correct date is July 22.
