Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) speaking Spanish in his Democratic National Convention speech last night was predictably polarizing for the pundits following along at home.

Kaine, who is fluent in Spanish after a year working with Jesuit missionaries in Honduras, earned generally positive reviews from liberals and establishment Democrats. But on the other end of the spectrum, conservatives took to Twitter to slam Kaine’s speaking Spanish as something like a “pandering” version of the bilingual children’s show “Dora the Explorer.”

  1. Dems are enthralled by an American politician who can speak Spanish. Unless his name is Jeb or Marco.

So true. But your Prez nominee appropriately demonizes Spanish speaking politicians, so there's that. You're covered on the hectoring xenophobia by the top of your ticket.
  2. Good job GOPers. You’ll look back wistfully at Romney’s 27% of the Hispanic vote and be confounded as to why it dropped to 2.7%.

  3. To conservatives, bi-lingual is a dirty word.

Third mention of Honduras by @TimKaine. Are we watching Dora the Explorer? Lista! Intelligente!

    This Laura Ingraham??

  5. Well at least Fox lined up Spanish speakers to criticize…oh wait, with the exception of Michelle, they’re all caucasian?

    I’m shocked.
