Following the resignation of Donald Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and a staffing shake-up, a CNN anchor asked former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski on Friday if he would return to the campaign.

“Are you talking to the campaign about perhaps rejoining,” CNN’s Brianna Keilar asked Lewandowski, who is now a contributor at CNN.

“As you know I work for CNN. I’m very happy with my work here,” Lewandowski replied. “I would be a distraction to that campaign, and you know that, and I know that. And so I’m very happy having the opportunity to participate through CNN and talk about what I think the campaign is doing right and what they’re doing wrong, both the Trump campaign and Clinton campaign. So I’m very happy doing what I’m doing.”

Lewandowski left the Trump campaign in June after he and Manafort reportedly clashed. Manafort attempted to make the campaign more professional and reign in Trump, but the Republican nominee repeatedly said he would not “pivot” and continued with his relentless personal attacks. Manafort’s resignation and the hiring of former Breitbart executive Steve Bannon appear to mark a return to the campaign’s initial strategy of letting Trump be himself.
