Hillary Clinton reacted Tuesday to the first day of the Republican National Convention, calling the kickoff event “surreal” and comparing the GOP nominee to the Wizard of Oz.
“Last night in Cleveland was surreal,” Clinton said, speaking from Las Vegas. “I kept thinking ‘What’s this like?’ and then I thought, you know, when I was a little girl I went to see when they reissued it, the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz.'”
The GOP convention was filled with a number of bizarre moments, from people calling for Clinton to be jailed to Trump appearing on stage to introduce his wife, Melania, as Queen’s “We Are The Champions” blared and fog machines filled the stage.
Clinton noted Trump’s rock star-esque appearance in her speech.
“There were similarities that appeared to me. You know, lots of sound and fury, even a fog machine, but when you pulled back the curtain it was just Donald Trump with nothing to offer to the American people!” she said.
Another notable event from the convention’s first night was Melania Trump’s speech, which included a large chunk of text that was lifted from a speech Michelle Obama gave at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. Clinton didn’t address Melania Trump’s address in her speech.
