A journalist at the scene of Wednesday’s shooting at the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo reportedly sent text messages to a friend after the violence ended.
“I’m alive. There is death all around me,” she texted, according to the New York Times. “Yes, I am there. The jihadists spared me.”
At least 12 people were killed Wednesday when gunmen stormed the newspaper’s offices. Two were police officers, one of whom was assigned to guard the paper’s editor due to earlier threats, according to the Associated Press.
French President Francois Hollande called the shooting a terrorist attack.
