Smoothie enthusiast Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) had some advice on Monday for GOP presidential candidate and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: pipe down and stick with real fruit.
Asked by a TPM editor on Twitter for his comment on the weekend report that Christie was booted from an Amtrak train quiet car for being too loud – all while drinking a McDonald’s strawberry smoothie – Rangel delivered, posting a video of himself attempting to whip up a fruity beverage.
@nickmartin since you asked: https://t.co/iYSJzvdhWc

Unlike @GovChristie I keep quiet in quiet car & blend my own smoothie w/ real fruit (tho it 2 may not go smoothly) pic.twitter.com/lrKy0bdplr

In the 20-second video posted to Twitter, Rangel attempted to use a small blender to make a smoothie, but appeared to be experiencing some technical difficulties.
“I wasn’t here, I haven’t touched it,” the New York Democrat said in the video.
While his mumbling to himself is mostly unintelligibly – likely consumed by the task at hand – Rangel has established himself as Congress’ foremost authority on smoothie making, often posting about the beverage on social media.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Hannah Kim, a spokeswoman for Rangel, clarified the Representative’s remarks in the video in an email to TPM. He was affectionately calling the blender “baby,” and saying: “unless someone has come in here and abused my baby when I wasn’t here. I haven’t touched it.”
Kim also said while the video doesn’t depict a smoothie Rangel made today, he would likely blend one when he “gets to the office in DC from NYC via Amtrak.”
