Suspended NBC newsman Brian Williams has resigned from the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation’s board of directors, the organization announced Thursday.

Last week, NBC News suspended the “Nightly News” anchor for six months after he admitted telling a bogus story about having been shot down in a helicopter while reporting from Iraq in 2003.

Williams had been a board member since 2005, the organization said.

The Congressional Medal of Honor is awarded to service members who “distinguish themselves through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty,” according to the Department of Defense.
