Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) said Wednesday that he was not aware of “anybody” who voted illegally in his state. He also asserted it was not worth the government’s time to investigate Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of massive voter fraud.
At a meeting of the National Governor’s Association, of which Sandoval is vice chair, Sandoval was asked about Trump’s announcement earlier that morning that he would order an investigation of voter fraud. Trump has repeatedly claimed without evidence, most recently on Tuesday, that millions of “illegals” kept him from winning the majority of the popular vote in the 2016 election.
“I can only speak to the state of Nevada and I am not aware of anybody who voted illegally in our great state,” Sandoval said, when asked if he had any evidence to substantiate Trump’s claims. “In fact, I am really proud of the way our state handled its election. To me, it’s over and let’s move on and let’s get to the job of governing this country.”
“We need to move on, that’s just the bottom line,” he added.
“So the idea of doing an investigation through the DOJ is not something that you think is worth the government’s time at this point?” Sandoval was asked.
“I don’t,” he responded.
