Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told reporters Thursday that Republicans have to show the country that they have alternatives to President Barack Obama’s agenda and not just oppose him.

“I think in order to maximize our year, it’s important that we show the American people that we’re not just the opposition party,” he said in Maryland at the annual GOP retreat. “We’re actually the alternative party.”

He invoked various bills the House has passed that the Senate hasn’t taken up.
