Christine Blasey Ford repeatedly applied her experience as a research psychologist and professor Thursday when asked about her own personal experience of being allegedly sexually assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Responding to a question from Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), Ford said, “I think the younger you are when these things happen, it could possibly have worse impacts than when your brain is fully developed and you have better coping skills that you’ve developed.”

She added that she was “definitely experiencing the fight-or-flight mode” during the alleged assault: “I was definitely experiencing the surge of adrenaline and cortisol and norepinephrine and credit that a little bit for my ability to get out of the situation, but also some other lucky events that occurred that allowed me to get out of the event.”
