In an e-mail soliciting donations for her mother’s campaign Monday morning, Tessa Bitterman, the youngest daughter of New Jersey gubernatorial contender Barbara Buono (D), excoriated Gov. Chris Christie (R) for failing to support marriage equality and “blatantly delegitimizing an entire group of people.”
“As a gay American, I have a stake in what our governor says about marriage equality,” wrote Bitterman, a law student at the University of San Francisco, according to the Star-Ledger newspaper. “And I have been deeply shocked by Chris Christie. As governor, he has been a giant roadblock to New Jersey achieving equality for all.”
Christie conditionally vetoed a bill in February that would have legalized gay marriage in New Jersey, but later suggested that the public should, instead, vote on the issue.
