Bill Nye revealed a “stunning breakthrough” about the universe during Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer” on Tuesday night.

After showing a clip of a woman explaining to a friend that the universe told her to start taking a calcium supplement, Nye told viewers, “We now know the universe is essentially a force sending cosmos guidance to white women in their twenties.”

Amber Tamblyn, as well as Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glaze of “Broad City,” made cameos to explain the role the universe plays in their lives.

After one final clip of Tamblyn explaining how news coverage of a cyclone was really the universe telling her to ditch her cable subscription, Nye breaks down.

“That just makes no fucking sense,” Nye says. “That’s just bullshit.”

  1. Nye made me a fan, to a degree, when he eviscerated that blowhard fundie Creationist Ken Ham during a debate last year. While I hated the fact that Ham’s profile, and thus fund raising grifting, would undoubtedly be rewarded by the high profile debate (and just acknowledging him gave him undeserved legitimacy for his lunacy), the closing question alone just made my day. It was so telling and went something like this:

Narrator: “Mr. Ham. What would change your mind about evolutionary processes and the creation of the universe?”

    Ham: “Nothing.”

    Narrator: “Mr. Nye…same question.”

    Nye: “Evidence.”

  2. Heh. I love the new-agey types (by no means all young or female in my experience) who think the universe has the time or inclination to send them personal messages to help them “grow” on their “journey.” I was having beers with a local environmentalist group one time and one woman remarked to another that she thought a recent cold was a “message from the universe to eat less dairy.” I wanted to tell her the universe would watch with serene indifference as she was torn apart by a pack of killer whales and really doesn’t care about her diet, or theirs, much one way or the other. I didn’t, that one time. But I wanted to.

  3. The universe seems neither benign nor hostile, merely indifferent.

  4. “Inside Amy Schumer?” I’d be clawing my way out during the cold open :cow:

  5. He’s a doctor in… Science!! Or at least a guy. Either way, absolutely brilliant.
