Amazon is getting in the drone business, the online retail giant’s founder and CEO revealed in an interview that aired Sunday.

During a segment on “60 Minutes,” Jeff Bezos unveiled for the first time that Amazon is developing a drone delivery service that will be called Prime Air.

The drones — “still years away,” according to Bezos — will be able to transport items weighing up to five pounds, which he said comprise 86 percent of Amazon’s deliveries.

Bezos said the drones will be “autonomous,” meaning they won’t be operated by humans.

“You give them instructions of which GPS coordinates to go to and they take off and they fly to those GPS coordinates,” he said.

Bezos purchased The Washington Post in August and laid out his vision for the newspaper in an interview in September.
