Attending the Brett Kavanaugh hearing as guest of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), actress and #MeToo movement leader Alyssa Milano recounted watching the 1991 Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill hearings and was hopeful that the scrutiny of the allegations against Kavanaugh brought by Christine Blasey Ford will end differently.
“I remember thinking what a horrible situation,” Milano said of the ‘91 hearings, which she watched as a 20-year-old. “It really was the foundation of my learning about what sex harassment was…I remember thinking what a strong, amazing solid woman she was.”

Milano traveled from Los Angeles to show “solidarity” and “support” for Blasey Ford, who’s accused Kavanaugh of groping her when they were both teenagers. Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
“I think we’re in a different time, I think women are standing together in solidarity, more so than we were in ’91, and I think women throughout the country are not going to let it be what it was,” Milano said.
She said she was invited by Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, as soon as the hearing was initially scheduled. Milano said she had also reached out to Blasey Ford’s attorney “just to show my support and if she needed to speak or go for coffee, or anything, if I could help her in anyway , that I was here for her.”
“Anytime people are talking about issues of sex harrasment, assault and abuse, it helps,” Milano said, when asked if Blasey Ford’s allegations were helpful to the #MeToo movement.
