Two business magnates met in New York on Monday afternoon, as Herman Cain became the latest GOP candidate to press the flesh with Donald Trump.

Speaking to Fox News ahead of the meeting, Trump praised Cain, the former CEO of the Godfather’s Pizza chain. “I mean, Herman Cain started with very little and look where he’s come and he’s doing really well in the polls. I think he’s done a really terrific job. I look forward to meeting him,” he said. “He just seems like a really nice guy and a good character to me.”

The two men met in Trump’s office at the Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Cain had been consistently in the single digits in national polls of GOP primary voters over the last few months. Then last week he surged to 17 percent in a Fox News poll, his highest level of support since early summer within those trial heats.

Coupled with his strong and consistent performances in the debates and his surprise win in the Florida straw poll, Cain has begun to turn some heads in the GOP.

The meeting with Donald Trump is just another sign of his increased relevance and possible rise to the upper tier of candidates.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Cain lost his communications director on Saturday. It was announced on Monday that the position would be filled by J.D. Gordon, who served as a Pentagon spokesman from 2005-2009 under Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates.

The meeting was certainly a highlight of the candidate’s day. “I just got out of a great meeting with @realDonaldTrump!” Cain tweeted upon exiting the meeting a few minutes ago. He also shared a photo of the event.

So far, Donald has stayed quiet about the meeting. He is expected to speak with Greta Van Susteren on Fox News this evening to discuss the interview.
