With the filing deadline drawing near for several key presidential primary states, pundits and reporters are on red alert over a possible entry by NJ Gov. Chris Christie.

In a piece titled, “Top Christie Donors Told To Head To Trenton,” The Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis has this:

“Big potential donors to Christie have been told to prepare to go to Trenton this Thursday to stand on stage with him for the announcement if he decides to run. He has not decided yet.”

Lewis concludes, “Regardless of his decision, this announcement will be big news…”

So, what is one to read into that? Presumably it would be a bit strange for Christie call donors to “stand on stage” while announcing that he’s not going to run.

This frantic back-and-forth over Christie’s intentions may be winning the media narrative; however, the Daily Telegraph’s Toby Harnden penned a blistering article this weekend suggesting it would hurt his eventual candidacy:

“The straight talking, decisive Christie who seems entirely lacking in vanity has gone AWOL. Instead, we have a Christie who speaks in contrived riddles about his intentions, who cannot seem to make up his mind and whose reaction to the flattery being slathered on him is to become giddily eager for more.”

TPM also rounded up some very big reasons of why the idea of Christie running for president might not be as compelling as most GOP operatives think.
