Today marks the 15th anniversary of this website, Talking Points Memo, aka TPM. The first post on the site was posted on November 13th 2000. And the design was rather different. It looked like this.

The format and yes the organization has changed a great deal over the last decade and half. Early years saw an aggressive focus on foreign policy, the Trent Lott meltdown, yes, the Gary Condit scandal, endless numbers of posts about voter suppression, election campaigns, the Iraq War and always, always political scandals. It was a decade ago that TPM hired its first employee and just shy of a decade ago when we opened our first office in New York City. The US Attorney story came two years later. Another two years after that we moved to our current office in New York City and opened our first office in Washington, DC. Since then we’ve had a continually expanding staff, Polltracker, our first mobile app, The Slice, our own daily webcast and a lot more.

As I mentioned a few days ago when I introduced our new series of inequality, news organizations are like people: those not busy being born are busy dying. And with that in mind, we have a lot new that you’ll be seeing soon, not standing still or sitting on laurels, but finding new and better ways to bring you the news each day. Because the world doesn’t stay still.
