Everyone agrees that Harry Reid really upped the pressure on DADT repeal negotiations by calling for this vote tonight, but then people cleave into two camps: those who consider it an unnecessary provocation in the midst of delicate negotiations and those who say it was about time wavering senators were forced to make up their minds.
I’m not sure which camp is right — or whether Reid’s gambit will prove effective — but it seems only fair to highlight that Reid tried to force his chamber’s hand since he’s gotten so much grief over the last year for not forcing issues.
