A Rendezvous with Destiny (and Choking)

Speaking in Pennsylvania a few moments ago, Donald Trump let slip that he’s apparently going to get the endorsement of legendary basketball coach and impulse control sufferer Bobby Knight at a rally tonight in Indiana. It makes sense because Knight is perhaps the ultimate … the personification of the Trump supporter – old, white and ready to lose it and go off on someone at pretty much any moment.

As we were talking about it just now, I’m even wondering whether they’ll have him throw out the first punch or folding chair at tonight’s event.

To date, there have been relatively few protester chokings at Trump events. The Trump rally protester assault ritual usually involves the protester getting cold cocked or sucker punched and then it’s straight to the assaulter walkaway – sort of like a guitarist after a shredding solo.

But over a generation as one of the winningest coaches in college basketball history in which he attacked or assaulted any number of players and colleagues, Knight’s go to attack seems to have been to choke people. The coolest part of Knight’s wikipedia bio is that the “Controversies and Criticism” section is broken down and itemized into 5 separate decades from the 70s to the 2010s. So it’s possible that at tonight’s event Knight might break new ground in addition to protester heads. Stay tuned.
